Mass Shooting at Grand Sierra Resort: 3 Dead, 3 Injured in Reno Tragedy
A tragic shooting unfolded Monday morning at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, Nevada, leaving three people dead and three others injured. The suspect, now in custody, was also critically wounded during a shootout with police.
The incident occurred just after 7:25 a.m., near the valet and northwest parking area of the popular resort. According to law enforcement, the shooter initially experienced a weapon malfunction, then opened fire on a group outside the hotel.
Reno Police responded within two and a half minutes, quickly locating the gunman and engaging him with return fire. A police officer suffered minor injuries from glass shards during the incident.
Authorities say the motive remains unclear, and the shooter’s identity has not yet been released. The investigation is being led by the Sparks Police Department with support from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
“This was a senseless act of violence,” said Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance. “Thanks to the quick response, more lives were not lost.”
The Grand Sierra Resort confirmed that no employees were harmed and praised both staff and first responders for their immediate actions.
Local officials, including Mayor Hillary Schieve, called the event heartbreaking and urged for greater action against rising gun violence.
